What goals are you setting for yourself? How can you make sure that you’re successful?
Setting goals is an incredibly powerful practice. Why? Because when you set goals and you work towards achieving them, you’re forced to evolve. You have a vision for your future that you work towards and you’re evolving on the way, as a person. You’re challenging your mind and you overcome obstacles that your mind puts you in the way.
I’d like to share with you 3 points that will help you setting and achieving your goals.
Number 1, how to set goals from a place of abundance, number 2, the process of writing your goals, and finally creating a plan for achieving them.
So the first step is to dream and ask yourself what do I want? What do I want to achieve this year? Now, what is super important is that you approach your goals from a place of abundance. What does this mean? Well, let’s say I have a start-up and my goal is to pitch it to investors and get funding. So the way to think and feel about it is like I have an amazing product and I want to deliver value to my customers. I will promote my product to as many investors as possible to share the value of my product with everyone. I feel wonderful about where I am on the journey right now. I wanted to build this product and I did, I feel awesome about that and the next step for me is to deliver the value to the potential investors and customers. This is how you approach your goal from a place of abundance.
Remember that you’re not setting your goal to be happier than you’re now. In fact, your level of happiness and joy don’t have anything to do with achieving your goals. Achieving your goals won’t make you happy. The purpose of achieving your goal is to evolve as a person and bring more value to the world.
So step 1 is that you dream, you ask yourself what do I want? What is my desire? And you approach your desire from a place of abundance.
In step 2, you write all your goals down. And you get specific. So how much money do you want to raise in your funding campaign? How many followers on social media do you want to have? How many investors do you want to have? When do you want to have it? You write it all down.
Now what will happen is if your goal is challenging and it should be, then your brain will come with hundreds of doubtful thoughts. And that’s completely normal and completely OK. It’s just your brain trying to protect you because you’re gonna do something you've never done before. There will be many thoughts like I don’t know how to do it. So, what you will do, is you will write them all down. Write as many pages as you need. Get it all out from your brain.
What you will do next is in your mind you will go to the place in the future where you already achieved this goal. You will ask yourself. If I am 100 % guaranteed to achieve these goals. If there’s no way I could fail, what would I do, how would I do it? And your brain will start coming up with many productive ideas. You will be surprised by how creative you will be.
Let’s say that one of your doubtful thoughts was – I don’t know how to contact investors. OK, so you will ask yourself. If I am 100% guaranteed to achieve this goal, how would I find out how to contact investors. And your brain will come with ideas like - contact a person who has done it before. Look for networking opportunities and so on.
That way you address your thoughts one by one. All of them. At the end of this exercise, you will see that achieving this goal is actually possible and you will start believing it.
Finally, you will create an action plan. What action steps do you need to take every month, every week, and every day. And you will use the ideas that you wrote in step 2. So in step 2 your idea was to attend some networking events to get to know potential investors. So the action step for today could be to find the 3 best networking events for your purpose, and register for them and attend them during the month.
That way you break down everything you need to do into steps.
So this is how to set goals effectively and achieve them.
Get into an abundance mindset. Ask yourself what are your dreams and desires. Write them down and turn them into goals by adding as many specific details as possible.
Then, write down all doubtful thoughts that come up. Address them from a place where you already achieved your goal. Turn these ideas into action steps. Create a plan and start working on it.
In this process, you will challenge your current believes and you will overcome the obstacles your mind is putting you in the way, and as result, you will evolve as a person. You will achieve your goals and create a positive impact in the world. Now in the end you might even exceed the goals you set out to achieve or might not achieve them, but one thing is for sure, you will be a new evolved person with new abilities, connections, and many new opportunities.
I encourage you to set amazing ambitious goals for this year, love them, and work towards them. If you do, it will blow your own mind where this work will take you.
